Philicia Castillo-Sanders is a Research Scientist at ISPH. She is pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy. Philicia has over 15 years of domestic and international research experience in maternal, sexual, and reproductive health and infectious diseases. Philicia currently works on a longitudinal prospective cohort study on respiratory infections, including COVID-19.

Before joining ISPH, Philicia was a Research Scientist at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, an Associate Director at the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, a Research Associate at the Guttmacher Institute, and a Research Coordinator at Gynuity Health Projects. Philicia’s work has included analysis of longitudinal cohort data of menopausal women, implementation of Black maternal health research ventures, engagement in quantitative and qualitative research projects related to family planning and abortion provision, access and management, as well as HIV/AIDS intervention research. Her research portfolio includes work in the United States and Latin America, West and East Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Philicia earned her MPH in epidemiology, with a secondary concentration in maternal, child, reproductive, and sexual health, from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy; she earned a BS in health promotion and disease prevention studies from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
