Giacomo’s post-doctoral research is funded by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson (ASAP) network and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. His project aims to gain insights into the extent of the role of the human microbiome in onset, progression, and response to treatment of individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
Giacomo obtained his BSc degree in cellular biotechnology at the University of Trento, Italy. He then moved to Wageningen University and Research, the Netherlands, for his MSc in microbial biotechnology, where he gained interest microbe-microbe and microbe-host interaction. In his PhD, he developed big data analytics skills in the context of the oral microbiome in a healthy Italian population.
His interest is in leveraging big data to gain meaningful, practical insights to improve personal and collective human health.
