Alexa D’Angelo, PhD, MPH

Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. D’Angelo’s research investigates how health insurer practices exacerbate (or mitigate) disparities in access to care for LGBTQ+ individuals, with a focus on access to biomedical HIV prevention (i.e., PrEP). Through a marriage of qualitative and mixed-methods approaches and policy analysis, her work bridges insights from individuals’ lived experiences navigating the U.S. healthcare system with structural analyses on the driving factors that undermine engagement with healthcare systems. Currently, she’s leveraging this methodological approach to disentangle the complex web of insurer, cost and clinic-driven challenges undermining the implementation and scale-up of long-acting injectable PrEP—the most promising recent innovation in HIV prevention.

Dr. D’Angelo received her PhD in Community Health & Health Policy from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy.
